Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf (Institute of Art History), Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kamp-Lintfort (Faculty Environment and Energy) and the Museum Schloss Moyland Foundation in Bedburg-Hau have cooperated in organising and offering a summer school on digital media concepts for art education. The use of social media channels and digital media in the field of knowledge transfer offers new chances for exhibitions and the presentation of art collections. The summer school aims at developing a new and pioneering approach using Storytelling as a method to communicate the challenging artworks to a large audience. The interdisciplinary composition of summer school is going to bring together an impressive array of research and knowledge exchange activity. Fields of specialism range from art history, media technology and art education to information science and museology. Museum staff, technicians, educationalists and art historians are going to meet in an international surrounding and enter into a creative and productive dialogue that aims at inspiring junior scientists to explore new fields of research. The contemplative Museum Schloss Moyland offers a perfect environment for discussing the question of tomorrow’s art education. The summer school is going to attend to a wide range of questions concerning the benefits and chances which the digital revolution might offer for future exhibitions and museums. Due to the interdisciplinary network of institutions, scientists, students and museum experts we will be able to offer an application and results-oriented exchange about the perspectives of digital Storytelling for museums.
The summer school is opened to MA students, postgraduates, Ph. D. students and junior scientists in relevant fields. These include, but are not limited to, the liberal arts, technological areas, and design, as for example art history, cultural or communication studies, computer science, communication design. The school is also opened to scientists in theory and practice in fields such as mentioned above.
It is expected, that applicants will meet following prerequisites:
- Active proficiency in either English or German is required, as is at least passive understanding of English;
- Strong affinity for new digital media and interests for innovative technologies;
- Deep interest in art and culture, in particular in the work of Joseph Beuys;
- Good team working skills and experience with international cooperation;
- Enthusiasm about interdisciplinary work;
- High level of self-initiative and creativity;
Trevel expenses will be refunded up to € 200 per person (please note that you will have to hand in expense vouchers). Summer school participants will be accommodated free of charge in shared rooms and free catering will be provided.
